Potty Mouth
was always going
to have a difficult time of it. Changing
the music policy over the last year or so to really focus on deep house and
techno could have been a risky move, potentially alienating it’s loyal fan-base.
Holding a party on the first weekend of February could be considered by some to
be placing yourself in the way of masses of direct competition, as promoters
across the city strive to capitalise on a population desperate to let their
collective hair down after a lean January. And then there was Mother Nature
herself, out to stir things up by dumping the first artic conditions of winter
over London.
So it was probably a surprise
to all involved that Potty Mouth was actually really busy – and then some.
Before the venue even opened there was a small queue of dedicated fans waiting
to see
Catz ‘N Dogz. As the doors
opened, clubbers milled round the DJ booth, still in their puffa jackets,
enquiring about set times. There’s no
doubt about it, people were here primarily for the killer line-up.
After residents
Hazmat and MikeOK warmed up the
snow-covered but excitable crowd,
Noir
took to the decks. His ‘
Recommends’
podcasts have taken the online deep house community by storm by combining all
the latest upcoming tracks, including a hefty amount from his own record label
Noir Music. Whilst technically good, his set was pretty much exactly what you’d
expect from one of these podcasts. However, this wasn’t such a bad thing as
it’s pretty much what the crowd were expecting and they seemed to enjoy it as
he played highlights like
Russ Yallop’s
amazing remix of
Louie Fresco’s new
track,
So Good.
Anticipation for
Catz ‘N Dogz was high as they elicited
the biggest reactions from the crowd which speaks volumes considering they’re
known on the London nightlife scene primarily for DJing and they were playing a
lot of new tracks that fans would be entirely unfamiliar with.
Droog and Inxec came on last at around
3 or 4 by which point the place was fully intoxicated n a heady mixture of
alcohol and deep grooves. At no point did it ever seem there were casualties
but alcohol-blood levels were definitely high- everyone got stuck right in,
ensuring it was busy until lights up
If you thought it would be a
tall order for
Potty Mouth to top the
Halloween party with Danny Daze, Martin Dawson and Jay Shepheard, then this
latest party proved a force to be reckoned with. If they can maintain these
high standards of artists on their line-ups then it’s sure to become one of the
must-do ‘big’ nights of the year alongside nights like
Mulletover. Right now it sits somewhere between the boutique
atmosphere of
Krankbrothers small but
select parties and the traditional, sweaty rave-in-a-big-warehouse feel of
Eastern Electrics. Which, when all’s
said and done, ain’t a bad place to be.
