Lindstrøm's Quiet Rebellion

So what element makes the track stand out for you and feel that it’s ready to be released?
The stuff I’m releasing now, its stuff that Ive wanted to do musically and make for a while. It changes all the time though when you're working  - in turn that creates more problems haha. But there comes a time when you have to be happy with what you make.

Apart from the album Six Cups of Rebel, what else is coming up for you in 2012?
Well there’s some releases and um...I don‘t really know. I think it’s going to be interesting working on a remix album. Ive managed to get some very interesting people to remix the tracks and I’m really looking forward to that basically. And of course I will be doing some touring when it’s over – the usual stuff haha.

Will you be looking to make more of your ambient pop work with vocalist Christabelle at some point?
I would probably like to do more of that dark sound pop; I’m not sure that it would be with Chirstabelle or who it’s going to be. I really enjoyed doing that stuff with her and I’d love to explore that sound – but I have a feeling that it’s not necessarily the best idea to go back and do something that’s already been done. I think that asking to do something with her or someone else, it would of course sound very different to the last stuff. When you meet and make music together, the music is usually a product of the meeting and very there and then, in the moment. Next time you meet, it will be different and influence the music in some other way. It’s always interesting to work with new people though and share these ideas.

You’ve been know for your usage of analogue instrumentation in the past – but you didn’t use much on this album did you?
Well I didn’t actually, no. I was trying to do everything like producing things and sequencing them together. Then, there was also taking everything around with me and also the amount of time it took tom produce things. So in the end, it drove me crazy. Basically that’s what i could afford. But it’s interesting after switching to computer software – I find my work rate is so much better now that everything is one place to use. It’s so easy to take away with me as well. Everyone always takes about the warmth of the track and analogue this analogue that – but I kind of getting tired of people using and making the same sounds and stuff. At a certain point, you decide that you’ve had enough of the whole thing- it’s not like Ive gone against everything analogue or I’m reacting against it – but since I started working on digital after working analogue for many years, they enjoy it. But the new album is lots more digitally produced – so much more in fact that I really have done before.

So you’re coming to London to play Scandalism, and the rest of the line-up is looking tasty and very diverse. You must be excited about the show?
Yes I am and I think it’s going to be a great show. I’m definitely looking forward to playing this show and it’s been a while since Ive been to London...

When was the last time you visited our fair city? And do you like playing here? Does it compare well with other cities?
Haha, it was a long time ago – I can’t really remember to be honest with you. But I like playing there but as long as I don’t play in a particular place to often I guess. Thing is with London, that’s similar with other big cities, you seem to sometimes get a bigger and better reception with people in smaller cities and towns because, um, they might not always have a lot of Djs and bands coming to their place. It’s easier to go to London with a release and stuff – I’m really positive about the show and I’m looking forward to trying some of my new material and sound out.

Finally, we often hear a lot about Norweigan DJs and acts – is the scene in your home country looking healthy at present?
Well it’s difficult to answer this, as I’m not really part of a scene of any kind. I’m not really going out and stuff, and I’m not really sharing studios with people. I don’t really feel like I’m part of a scene or something, I’m an outsider. I dunno – I speak to some of these young DJs and stuff about the scene in Oslo and stuff when I have the chance, but I’m not part of a scene and I don’t really have a connection with anybody haha. I like to approach my music without being distracted by things around me.

'Six Cups of Rebel' is due for release on the 6th February. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets for Scandalism on 27th February.
