The productions of young Mancunian Callum Wright, or the extravagantly punctuated D/R/U/G/S, were initially discovered by online bloggers and subsequently attracted the attentions of bigger publications, launching the young artist from bedroom producer to internationally touring live electronic act almost overnight. A lone entity armed with an MPC, he makes distinct, arresting and textured house music with an edge, ranging from bleepy electro, to emotional house and angsty techno - DT welcomes him with open arms as he joins our Class of 2012 party at London's Big Chill house next Saturday, the 28th January. What’s your personal favourite track on it?
The Signal Deluxe remix, im getting pretty sick
of that 80's bass house sound that every dj and producer in the world
are obsessed with at the moment but this is nice.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
I had a lot of fun putting this together as
it's a lot more chilled than my usual sets which are usually techno,
progressive house based.
I was specifically looking for deeper tracks that retained the atmospheric feel
that I always go for. Every track I write or DJ with has to pass the iPod
test and have that listenable quality rather than just be a 'banger' as such.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Modeselektion at Warehouse Project no
doubt. To play a sold out show of that size in my hometown was very special.
Was a real nice way to round the year off.
What have you got coming up?
A couple of 12"'s coming out over the next few months then were
working towards a mini album hopefully around the early summer.
Shows wise there's SXSW coming up and my first few
dj shows.
