David Forbes - Conetic

Scottish trance veteran David Forbes has been involved in the scene for close to two decades, commencing his self confessed rave apprenticeships back in the early-'90s. Conetic fizzes into life with some tough beats which are soon joined by a great bassline that adds some oomph. A simple but very effective keyboard sequence adds the trancier element, building subtly with the bass also stepping up a gear. Things gets nice and harmonious in the midsection, with the riff having the required uplifting effect. Any lingering moments are soon snapped back down as the snarling sawtooth style bassline powers back in.
 
The only surprise on this release is that for once the Activa remix doesn’t improve on the original. The beats are just as slamming but the bassline seems a little lightweight at times, although Rob does add an acid-laced touch from the old 303s but this doesn’t have the desired impact. A few extra melodies swirl around at the break, but this isn’t as memorable as the original.
