Kim Fai - Good Life

Birmingham 21-year-old KF has likely little right to take on the gods of house Inner City, and with remixes, tributes and sampling bearing their usual collective odds of a 50-50 success rate, you’re never sure whether fans of the chart-arresting original will welcome this with open arms or an upturned nose. Festival tenant Fai should at least be commended for bolstering a burgeoning rep by showing he has a willingness to tackle the reputation of the almighty (with Kevin Saunderson’s blessing as well, no less). If he’s gonna suck, he may as well suck attempting something immense.
Backing bottle with execution is next, and he’s done well. Stammering that unfailing synth riff into a burrowing, roomy, sub-tribal jack before letting it loop back into all its glory on the breakdown, and making similar circles out of Paris Grey’s vocals, it’s a laudable update that backhandedly, will have you searching out the first copy, even if the '09 revamp does nothing for you. Steve Angello, a big KF backer, also has a mix available of something with just enough twist on its muse – respectful, while doing his own thing - to gain a new audience.
