Although his recent direction has seen him move away from electro-tech and into jogging, bouncy tech house beats, German talent Gregor Tresher’s keen to show on his new album that he’s never just about one sound. The spooky proto-electro of Ghosts makes for an unexpected sort of opener, with a cool vocal tracks in the bouncy sass of The Very End. Some interesting experiments come in the form of the deranged synth melodies and grubby bass of Plutonian Shores, and the electro/dubstep/garage hybrid Days For Minor Keys, but it’s largely an affair that’s made to make people move.
Straight up dancefloor wiggles are catered for in tracks like the sinister-edged Escape To Amsterdam, the mischievous ticking of Fire On Fire and the tonk ‘n’ bounce of Black Six Survival. His knack for rousing euphoric anthems is still very much intact – on the muted trance pads and joyous bassline of the title track, the triumphant, driving melody of Awakening Life Inside.
The album occasionally dips into pedestrian forgetableness, but it’s generally solid and a more consistent effort than his previous LP. Plenty to grab her for DJs and spotters alike.
