After a summer season in Petrcane, Croatia, Geddes returned in full swing. After another debaucherous, Halloween-themed Mulletover party at the end of October, his own label; murmur, returns with a host of releases for your over-indulgence.
Mic Newman needs no introduction. Having produced some of most exciting tech.house ever to come out of Australia, and been recognised by, and remixed, the likes of Dirty South, Booka Shade, and a frankly mindblowing assault on Criss Sol and J Foster (Every You, Every Me). His first release for murmur is no different.
A-side Sizzled Sally, is the most refreshing house track of the month. Already it had a summer of requests, anticipation, and hype. The first Balearic synth that plays, tricks you into a false knowledge of what this track will be, but expectations change instantly. Newman's occasional branding of 'technical wizard' isn't surprising; as perfected with previous release The Aries, Newman produces house music that is teasing, entrancing, and beautifully euphoric; Sizzled Sally ticks every box. On its flipside 5 O'Clock, Newman creates a heavy groove, that lays perfectly with this guitar-and-horn-driven, funk dream.
The digital-only release also gets the surprising highlight; 'Elephantine', a bubbly and deep track that is basked in warmth. The track's break uses vocal samples, distorted to abuse, that play in the background like distant conversation. As the beat returns, the chatter falls away, and you'll never want this track to stop.
Mic Newman's release for Murmur is brilliant minimal house; building on, and bettering his, already solid, repertoire. This diverse three-track, hints at a widening breadth of Newman's influences, with each track bringing something new. It's clear, that after this E.P., there's a sea of music ready to be made; each retouching, and reworking his hypnotic style. Mic Newman is one to be followed; one of the most consistent and exciting producers of the moment, and this release is no exception.
