Sean Truby - Hooked

Hailing from Whitley Bay, just outside Newcastle, Sean Truby is one of the new breed of British trance producers whose well worth keeping an eye on. This latest release shows that as well as banging tech-trance he can also craft more melodic, deeper sounds too. It’s a bit more up-tempo that previous KTL releases but sounds right at home on the Matt Hardwick A&R’d label that’s becoming renowned for deep, melodic trance.

Truby starts with a lead synth that joins the kick and percussion right from the off, gradually rising in intensity until the first mini break when he uses a reverb to sneakily fold it back in on itself, before a smooth bassline emerges and some other subtle synths that stoke things up. A beguiling keyboard riff soars from the plethora of background melodies that swirl around like a haze during the midsection, with a set of synth stabs reigniting the energy and bringing back in the beat. This deep melodic monster has a helter skelter edge to it with lots of unexpected twists and turns.

Ehren Stowers, head of A&R at Corderoy’s Accord Records delivers a belter of a remix, by adding a bit of bite to the kick and tweaking the melodies by adding an eclectic electro riff as well as some techier effects on the fringes. He keeps the same roller coaster flow from the original but the extra electro touches really power it up nicely, while the midsection is subtly reworked.
