Buzzin Fly has turned to their own close family for this, their first release of 2010. Lisbon’s Alex Santos was one of the labels first signings, going on to produce the massive Lose Control. Chris Woodward, whose move into the production world has been a relatively recent adventure, is by no means a stranger, having worked and DJed alongside label head Ben Watt since 2003.
So, does familiarity breed success here? Village Vanguard is certainly memorable, the long jazzy horns that build up and up before dropping into a chunky glitchy house cut. The two big breakdowns are maybe marmite moments for some but there is no doubting their ability to raise a few smiles on the dancefloor and I could think of many a sunny beach party where Village Vanguard would seem very apt indeed.
Chris Woodward also supplies us with a stripped back dub version. A bit meaner, it does exactly what is says on the tin, not wishing to deviate to much from the original, and of course keeping those distinctive horn blasts. Hands in the air indeed.
