With a string of releases under his belt on imprints such as Captivating Sounds, Vandit Digital and ASOT, Glaswegian Paul Trainer is clearly making waves with his energetic blend of tech trance.
Named after his monthly Afterhours FM radio show, Soundscape is a sleek, driving trancer with more than a hint of menace. Although at a slightly lower tempo than you might expect, the original mix builds on a stripped back kick and some stark percussion, before the slamming bassline injects some energy. A raw electro-edged hook adds more grunt, which is softened somewhat by some more melodic flourishes, until the break when the hook really comes to the fore providing some serious hands in the air action.
Fellow Scot David Forbes provides a quality remix embarking on a more stripped back, tech-trance path, with a steelier kick, a rumbling bassline and stabs echoing in the background. The electro hook and melodic elements seem a little more filtered which gives the remix a more underground vibe.
