The latest Funkatech release comes courtesy of a face-off between label favourite Pyramid, and prolific scenester, Wizard. Apparently the first of many; if this release is anything to go by the partnership could be rather profitable for the label.
Rain starts with intent and quickly builds the beats and Yolanda Quartey’s vocals towards the breakdown, where the producers really let rip. Her soaring voice harks back to the intensity of Blue Pearl’s Naked in the Rain, especially when accompanied by the unashamedly old-school piano line. The fantastically over the top breakdown is then followed by a suitably heavy bassline and wall of noise, making this a definite dancefloor weapon.
In comparison, second track War of the Worlds seems less of a peak time anthem, but in reality it packs just as much power. Beginning with marching drums, the wonky break-step beats give rise to a cacophony of electro elements and nasty dubby noises, cementing this EP as a must have for in any breaks DJs arsenal.
