Californian trio Release’s debut offering Distant Destiny was the top track of 2009 for me scoring 10/10, and for plenty of others as it rated the number one track on the Beatport genre chart. As individuals, each are well respected DJs in their own rights, regularly playing alongside the likes of Sean Tyas, Ferry Corsten and Markus Shultz.
So I’ve been keenly awaiting their follow-up, Absolute Reality, another poignant, uplifting affair - but it doesn’t quite have the same intensity as its predecessor. There’s lots of detail paid to the melody which is another ripper, with sweet, classic style strings and a tantalising little acid coated riff bubbling away but overall the synths don’t quite have the same high impact, call to arms effect of Distant Destiny, plus the bass is a bit lower caliber too.
Young Russian Arty takes things on a more progressive tip with his remix, which is a much more laid back affair, a catchy little vocal sample, some progressive percussion which chips away and a smooth reinterpretation of the melodies.
