The third instalment in the Rediscovered album sampler series features heavy weight remixes from Tyas and Patterson, alongside efforts from Discover favourites Adam Foley and Sly One vs Jurrane.
Sean Tyas’ remix of Fade to Black, one of Askew’s more uplifting tracks, is a joy to behold. With a nice punchy Tyas style kick and stabbing percs, a few moody strings build the atmosphere, before he weaves in the lead riff which is a pearl. The break is a work of art, with lush melodic pads combining brilliantly with the awesome rippling riff. This will definitely be in my top 10 for 2010.
Former Dogzilla Simon Patterson does an impressive job on Black Out, weaving in his banging, slightly psy-style twist. The track starts off with a fizzing kick and sinister effects, before the rumbling bass, vocal samples and psy style twists kick into action. There are some more uplifting elements in the middle of the track but largely kept in reserve as the bouncy bass, dark effects and trippy vocal samples hold court, with a hint of some acid laced sounds lurking on the edge.
Current Discover champs Sly One vs Jurrane go a step further with their thumping tribal tweaking of the unsurprisingly acid-infused Giving You Acid. Things start off in usual banging territory with a hollow kick, chugging bass and rasping acid riffs. The break offers a nice contrast, with a soft rippling string and harmonies transforming the atmosphere before the acid riff and tribal kick return.
Irishman Adam Foley doesn’t hold back on his tech-trance remix of Misfit. He deploys a slamming kick and crunchy, techy percussion. There are some spacey film clip samples, with a euphoric style trumpet blast, lots of gushing pads and a nagging riff which fires up as the track roars into life. He then really twists the riff after the mid-section to keep things interesting.
