Zoo Brazil - Match

John Anderson, aka Zoo Brazil, can seemingly do no wrong – whether it's producing up front, peak-time house or underground, manipulative techno. Zoo Brazil’s second outing on Dubfire’s Sci+Tech label at first appears to be a relatively straight forward affair, with the original mix feeling like the kind of weighty yet minimal, slightly discordant track you’d expect from the label. Building to mini bassy peaks, the track is packed with the kind of moody hooks that still do the business across the techno world.

It’s the remixes that take things up a peg or two and make life a little more interesting. Manchester’s OD Muzique and Mark Holmes' stretch the beast out to over nine minutes and give the track both a more full-bodied feel with their sparse use of percussion and a fantastic, minimalistic peak at the seven minutes mark. Of all the offerings on the EP this is the killer, this is the mix that’s going to be DJ weapon. Backed up by other recent remix efforts, this should be the calling card for the Sankey residents.

Of the two Tim Xavier remixes, its not the hard style Berghain mix but the Sexy Downtown re-rub that wins out - a mix that makes full use of the track’s potential as a slow burning, sultry teaser. Offering more groove and rhythm than the others, the track verges on house, easing itself into a floaty, breakdown peak at the four minute mark. This is the track most likely to satisfy a diverse crowd, or settle neatly amongst a slower, less jumped-up techno set.
