Rmxxology

Take Delicious Vinyl, a label that’s brought the world some of the hip-hop’s greatest legends, remove the 12 inches from their protective glass cases and ask some of current music’s superstars to remix these classics for the 2008 audience and you have Delicious Vinyl All Stars Rmxxology. It sounds like a dream, with remixes from Don Rimini, Hot Chip, Eminem, Peaches and Breakbot, you should be onto a winner.

However, don’t feel bad if you can’t find the Torrent just yet, this collection of revamped classics should be approached with the caution usually reserved for the rowdy boys playing music from their phones at the back of the bus. Each track is solid and there are indeed flashes of brilliance. Don Rimini’s remix of Young MC's Bust a Move is nothing short of dance floor monster and Peaches’ rehashing of Tone-Loc’s Wild Thing is coked-up alleyway fuck in audio form.

But it just feels like the tracks don’t really sit well together. Electro-rave sits sweating and writhing uncomfortably next to swaggering hip-hop. It’s hard to ascertain the audience that Delicious Vinyl were aiming for. It seems they’ve tried to please everyone but in doing so run the risk of alienating most.

But let’s run through some more good points. There’s some up to standard Baltimore from Aaron Carter & Debonair Samir’s remix of Young MC’s Know How Theme, some ball-grabbing rap from Eminem’s remix of Slaughtahouse by Masta Ace and a fasted paced DeLorean soundtrack from Mr Flash as he turned his white-gloved hand to adapting another Masta Ace hit Sittin’ On Chrome.

This album’s an odd one. The tracks are great but they don’t work together. Take from that what you will. I can’t be bothered to write anymore about it.
