London based club Fabric
is renowned for hosting a long line of artists from around the world, and its
Friday night mashup Fabriclive has
featured appearances from drum and bass instigators Goldie and Andy C, to
Dubstep scientists Benga and Caspa, and more electronic influences from the
likes of Simian Mobile Disco and Toddla T. A selection of these artists
have been chosen to record for Fabric’s own live mix series from its Friday
night experience - the honour of instalment 60 has been handed to French mastermind Brodinski, who is known for dipping his
toes in a vast array of genres. Gathering tasty samples of techno, acid house
and R’n’B, Brodinski’s contribution provides both an insight into his
inspirations and his eclectic musical taste.
Bicep’s acid house trip ‘Silk’
kicks off the mix, exploring chaotic atmospheres and providing a defiant tempo
for things to come. Deep house groove ‘Workin
& Steamin’s dark synths and eery vocal samples provide a stark contrast
to tracks such as Tomas Barfod’s ‘Beach Party’ where lighter hearted tones
work through to lift the mood. Axel
Bowman’s ‘Purple Drank’ takes a
deep bass trip through fading chord progressions and sharp snares, and we even
see a remix of T.Williams’‘Heartbeat’ from British dance long-timer Paul Woolford. Renaissance Man’s ‘Stalker
Humanoid’ brings forward more tech-y trancing, also seen in Samuel L. Session (who appears twice in
the mix) feat. Paris The Black Fu’s
‘Hype-Nosis’.
Brodinski slips in a track from his own remixing side
project Gucci Vump, alongside Guillaume from The Shoes. This cleverly reworked
version of Woodkid’s ‘Iron’ seems to infuse all of Brodinski’s musical influences
into one; proving his ability to effortlessly switch between genres. Towards
the end of the mix, Brodinski entices eagerly awaiting fans with a release from
his label Bromance. Switch feat Andrea Martin’s ‘I Still Love You’ provides a
hint of RnB, slowing down the rhythm and pacing listeners for the final chapter
of his mix.
Fabriclive 60
winds its way through different tones and tempos, creating a reflection of
Brodinski’s greatest musical influences over the past two years. After thinking
long and hard about his choice of tracks, he has created a mix that not only
flows majestically despite its variation, but one that also stretches deeper
into the deeper side of Friday night fare at the famous London superclub - a more personal contribution to the Fabriclive
series.
