Ralph Lawson’s 2020 Soundsystem return with a simple groover, which has its roots in disco and its backbone in tech house. Nothing much really happens, it’s just a heads down rhythm that twists and turns and mutates – and for me doesn’t really make much of an impression. Young Burnski however takes the whole thing to pieces with his chunky funky minimal techno jaunt. Percussion that sounds like someone throwing a pan down the stairs, an elephant trunk of a subby bassline that lifts you off your feet and various trippy noises permeating the mix make for a real floorshaking track – and wait ‘til you get to the spooky, near-silent breakdown (which a friend described as sounding like “raving with loads of pilled-up Casper The Friendly Ghosts”)...and feel the immense impact of the beefy drop thereafter. Dangerous stuff.
