Pedramovich - Parkhill EP

Iranian-born Sheffield man Pedram Mehrshahi, aka Pedramovich, is a producer who has been hotly tipped for 2009. Under the increasingly solid Supernature label of Audiofly, Pedramovich churns out out some lovely shuffly, whippy deep house.

Lead track Burka is deep yet bouncey, a very organic woodblock married nicely with a spacy, techy and floaty melody that gives Burka a solid place in any warm up DJ's box. Its cheeky mini-breakdowns help the tune to not get stale (which it had every chance of doing), and the addition of some proud sounding echoey synths give Burka a bit more of a spine and grit. While I initially dismissed Burka as average, come third or fourth listen it really is a very unique and catchy pice of music.

Full glory however goes to the Men in Tress remix (this EP has revealed not one but two new talents!) The addition of a muffled rolling bongo, warped synths and hissy yet subtle percussion make this a dance floor winner. A vocal is chopped and looped and fits perfectly to make this sublime piece of tech house. Check out Men in Trees' previous releases on Audio Parish and you'll realise these Swiss gents, like Pedramovich, should make a real impact this year.

A more ploddy and melodic version from Alex Niggerman is certainly not bad but fails to keep your attention and is somewhat overshadowed by his fellow remixers.

Perdramovich also gives us Hotspot, another punchy tech tinged deep house tune, very reminiscent of productions by the likes of Tom Ellis and Leif. It may not light the dance floor alive and its slower deeper edge may lose the attention of some but you can't fault the production and it would sound a lot better once cranked up - I'm sure Hotspot will find it's way onto many a terrace this summer.
