Denmark’s doyen of hard trance, DJ Choose is back with another cheeky turbo-charged slice of genius. The curiously titled Stranger Danger comes in two parts, and includes a diverse couple of remixes, courtesy of undiscovered new talents.
Part 1 builds on the trademark Choose tough, steely capped, slamming beats, with a cunning little hook melody and a surging bassline propelling the track head-on. The breakdown weaves wave after wave of atmospheric effects and a classic euphoric melody that’s got an original edge to it, making it my pick of the 4 track release.
Part 2 is a slightly longer version with at first a more toned down kick and a rougher touch added to the bass. An electro style melody is fused into the uplifting elements, to give a more poignant air to the track, while the breakdown is a bit shorter.
St Petersburg duo Digital Stories take the track on a more progressive trip, by dropping the tempo and stripping away much of the menace from Parts 1 and 2, instead adding a bouncy edge to the bass and maximising the euphoric synths. Choose’s protégé, Danish up and comer Fredin adds a raw electro edge to the track, again dropping the tempo and fusing a heavy electro bassline with the electro elements of Part 2, while also incorporating some of the other uplifting melodies.
