Audiojack - Radio

Leeds’ duo Audiojack come good on their debut album here, running the gamut of their tech house sounds with some very impressive results.

Radio is quite the opening salvo – the kind of track you could open a set with very happily and see the crowd instantly grab the bait. Driving bass and crunchy claps are messed about with cool edits and fills, while layers of tech house sassiness are slowly built up. Disco Gameshow takes rolling ‘80s punk-funk and beefs it up a little, leading us into shuffling piano stomp of Jack The Keys.

Next up is the excellent Red Eye – an irresistible rolling, cheeky slice of tech house with some minimal groove thrown into the mix, all sexy, bouncing and brooding. Schizophonic is classic material – a bit of a French feel to its muted pad sounds and bubbling low slung bass, with a real sting in its tail when it cuts to silence and then whacks back in unexpectedly. Plastic Grass treads a more acid house path, all old skool delayed claps and rigid riffs, while No Control goes a bit more experimental on our collective ass – sounding like James Holden at his moodiest, with an ominous, ploddy beat underpinning the dark electronic sounds. Sun Through The Ceiling makes for a wonderful finale – gently uplifting, warm deep house with a crisp edge a lovely fluffy chime-like melodies.

It’s a very impressive collection with only a few tracks that don’t quite hit the mark. Removing these would have made for a tighter, more succinct album, but there’s plenty for DJs and others to enjoy here. A talented outfit for sure – expect to be hearing many of these tracks for the remainder of the year on your local dancefloor.
