After a career looking cool as part of The Prodigy, Thronhill has been messing with breaks and beats under the Longman and Flightcrank pseudonyms. On his own Electric Tastebuds imprint, his latest entry for 2008 is a plain bassline pulsation with typical rave heritage. Some passing vocal snippets fill out the track and provide its title, but Thornhill’s need for a vocal to latch onto only amounts to snippets seemingly snuck in from a sample library. ‘Beat Messin’’ is limited in its actions, but its raspy scuttling makes its mark, staring like a mad scientist about to make Metropolis pay. It might not rock the place to its core, but as a mid-set selection, it’s sounds of domination push the mix on and do a job.
