Compost seem to be releasing treat after treat for deep house fans at the moment, with Manuel Tur & DPlay especially churning out some real corkers.
 
Here we have a couple of solid efforts from Jay Shepherd, whose Pipes and Sneakers went down very well recently, and the remix of that same tune by Manuel Tur and DPlay is a highlight here. Classic Reality builds on Pipes and Sneakers’ successful formula with a great deep, dirty, plodding intro. A euphoric, floaty, synthy layer perfectly contemplates the relentless groove of this tune, changing key at all the right moments and giving you a gorgeous slow deep sunrise tune. A real ‘sitting on a lilo in the villa pool after DC10’ piece of music, it is a very impressive follow up to the aforementioned track. The Pepper Jam is not bad, a more linear start with less groove than Shepherd’s other efforts, a repeated ‘humm’ and harpsy keyboard give it a quite an old school feel.
 
The main event certainly is Manuel Tur and DPlay’s remix of Pipes and Sneakers. The start is very similar to the original but given a spooky haunted house effect over the top and then a simple sub-bassy thud that takes you into a short breakdown, where you’re soon plunged into a happy little world of clicky rolling deep techy house. The catchy chords of the original mix are always there and it pays real homage to the original while somehow making it even better. It really is superb. If you don’t smile listening to this you need therapy.
 
Arrowhead County is almost minimal in its intro, a catchy bleepy start gives way to trademark Jay Shepherd euphoric synths and a nice hand-clap effect that gives this tune a real smooth edge. Great after hours stuff. A highly recommended EP that will get you dancing your socks off while also helping you out during those sketchier moments!
