A little gem here with If You Like – a wiggly thumpy tech house tune that pulls no punches. A simple groovy bass line with a hint of sub bass gets you off to a riotous start until a the breakdown strips the tune to a muted distorted vocal that sounds like you’re late for your flight at the airport. You’re then knocked off your socks with a sexy little snare drum that, when all pieced together with the gorgeous intro, makes for a lovely dirty piece of tech house. It’s an extremely intelligent piece of music from Reclick and Nick Curly, with each breakdown introducing something new and different. They even chuck in a deep housey synth for a short while which is smotheringly sexy.
Flip it over and you’re given two more – Amballo and Katanga. The former is a very nice piece of tribal tinged deep house, with a clicky yet smooth bassline and a mischievous little muted bongo over the top. The memorable moment is stomach punching upping of the bass line that comes in half way through, giving this tune a very sexy, jackin feel while still remaining deep and techy. It would sound fantastic on a big sound system. Katanga is a slower and deeper effort, the smooth secretsundaze-style deep bass line accompanied by what sounds like a room full of pissed off rattlesnakes. An epic Trentmøller-esque sci-fi noise makes the odd appearance. Perhaps the weakest on this release, but by no means a straggler. I’ll certainly be looking out for these boys a lot more – if they better If You Like anytime soon I’ll be mightily impressed.
