Remixes of The Chemical Brothers’ classic? Really? Oh sorry, a reworking? Well truth be told, Japanese talent Shinichi Osawa’s update is a very worthy effort. He’s basically just tightened and beefed it up into a punchy, gruff electro vibe, but still with that driving sheen of the original, and the re-sung female vocals are dare I say it even more emotive and somehow more powerful than those of the original. Very big, with crisp, metallic Justice live drums, and it sounds exactly how you want it to in terms of a faithful update.
Of the remixes it’s all about Brookes Brothers for us. Like High Contrast with a jetrocket up his arse, the Bros do an a very good, straightforward job of souping the track up to a turbochanged D&B standard, with big, rushy bass melody and well-chosen looping of the vocal to match the key changes from major to minor. Superb stuff.
Patrick Alavi’s mix is also worth a look, the Frenchman turning it into a quirky, slinky-bassed, dreamy porno-esque number that’s like Air jamming with Jean Jacques Perry.
