Get Wrong

By: Wrongstar Society
Label: Electric Tastebuds
Written by: Matty O
Rating: 7/10

After a transfer from the Unstable Label to Leeroy Thornhill’s breaks palette, here comes the second wave of Wrongstar wrangling. The Beats Rhymes & Conflicts album was the definition of aggravated, but tellingly showed that when the quartet restrained their ultra brat profiling and let the music do the talking, they became more of an outfit that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Get Wrong does feature a stock amount of gobbing off sponsored by Special Brew and Carbrini (though the auto-tuned call and response is definitely not a good look), but matched by controlled ragga flexing over a weaving bassline bob, it’s a rave-stung position that’s non-complex but kinda hellish. Bare boned backdrops meet out and out gruffness as hardcore, hoover-plugged trance synths wait to attack the panic button, with the instrumental reinforcing the stance of a dub-raver being deep in thought but on the verge of lashing out at any moment.

Dog Brain Soup is scorched by a job-doing bassline hack; another piece of metallic but slithery grit, copyright Freq Nasty, keeping its head down with a straightforward breaks gait...damn it, alright, maybe it could do with a bit of patent Wrongstar push and shove on the mic, but at least there’s opportunity for fire-breathing emcees to make this one their own. Good consolidation from the WS.
